Summer is over and most of the summer clubs have shut down but there is still tennis happening on the Vineyard. Please read below and if you have any tennis news you would like to share please forward it to me.
Oak Bluffs Elementary Tennis Courts
The OB tennis courts are in a bad state and fundraising campaign has begun to help resurface them. This would be great for the community and would add two more public courts for tennis players to play on. OB principal Megan Farrell is spearheading the campaign and If you would like to donate or help in any way please contact Megan at MFarrell@mvyps.org
New Pro for VYT
Tyler Owens, popular teaching pro at Farm Neck, will join the Vineyard Youth Tennis staff for the winter months. Tyler will be a great addition in helping with the high school players as well as the little ones. He will rejoin Farm Neck in the spring. Speaking of Farm Neck, don’t forget the ongoing pro shop sale being offered. Stop by and check out the great deal on shoes!
Paul Pertile, Edgartown Yacht Club Tennis Director, is smiling from ear to ear these days. His son Grant received a tennis and academic scholarship to Bryant University in Rhode Island. To add to this news, Grant recently won a Gold Ball National Championship in the Men’s Open Doubles division in Newport at the Hall of Fame in August. Grant will enroll in college next fall.
MVCT Fall Classic canceled
The MVCT Fall Classic was canceled a few weeks ago due to lack of participants. We hope to reschedule this event in the near future and come up with a better date with less conflicts.
Airport Tennis and Fitness Center
The annual Turkey Open will take place on November 20th at the Center. Home made turkey sandwiches along with some other anniversary happenings will be taking place. Stop by the front desk to register.
